A little history of this song ...

Back in the 90s, Jim Steinman (who wrote all the classic Meat Loaf songs from the first two Bat Out Of Hell albums) started writing songs for a planned Batman musical, which Tim Burton was attached to direct on stage.

He wrote and recorded several demo songs for the musical, which for one reason or another never materialised. One of those songs was this one - 'Seize The Night'. He would later re-work it as part of his vampire musical 'Dance of the Vampire' (or 'Tanz der Vampir' in Germany where it was a much bigger success than in the US).

However, when it came time to do the third Bat Out Of Hell album, Meat Loaf made the controversial decision to go ahead and make it without Jim Steinman (who, at the time, was suffering from health problems). So, rather than wait for Jim to write some new songs and finish the trilogy properly, Meat Loaf did his own versions of already-established Steinman songs - including 'Seize The Night"

This is what makes Bat Out Of Hell III such an enigma - it feels like half of a masterpiece. Meat's versions of the existing Steinman songs are superb (especially, in my opinion, 'The Future Ain't What It Used To Be' and 'It's All Coming Back To Me Now'), but the rest of the songs on the albums - which Steinman did not write - are good but not great. A missed opportunity, but still a very good album.

HOWEVER, Meat Loaf's version of 'Seize The Night' came out brilliantly, and even though I wouldn't trade Christopher Nolan's Batman films for the world, it got me thinking about what a Batman musical would be like. With that in mind, I made this amusingly-titled music video about a busy two days in Bruce Wayne's life, compiled with clips from 'Batman Begins' and 'The Dark Knight'. I hope you enjoy it.

FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY - I DO NOT OWN THE SONG OR THE CLIPS ETC.

  • Great combination of this song and batman video. But please, that is night, but knight.

  • @gunbuster363 I did that on purpose as a play on words (seeing as he's the dark 'knight')

  • @mwadaddy Man, I am not feeling right about it. The whole song is talking about a monster bat coming out and freaks everybody. I appreciate your play on "night" as "knight" as a tribute to batman, but who can "seize" our batman?

  • @gunbuster363 no one can seize batman, but the villains sure do try! :)

  • This song is filled with bits of other Steinman song music. Kind of irritating

  • @droughthorn Exactly! I have noticed steinman takes parts of his songs to use in other songs

  • The begining to this song is Jim Steinman's 'The Storm'. or a variant of it. Taken from his Bad for good album.

  • Awesome video. But I must say, I do prefer Michael Keaton's Batman over Christian Bale's. That's just my personal preference.

  • FANTASTIC "DANCE OF THE VAMPIRES" OVERTURE!!!!

  • @ReallyGoodJoe

Because the Chis Nolan Batman films are way better than Burton's.

  • Wait, if this was a song from a planned Batman musical being done by Tim Burton, why aren't you using clips from Burton's Batman movies?

  • Bless the (k)night. Before it has a chance to pass.

  • BLESS THE KNIGHT!!!
