Well that was bloody useless if you have half a brain....

but you did not show it....

I paint this kind of details even after priming model with purity seal:
Prime Your model
Take wall pigment
Paint gaps with it
Using slightly wet papertowel erase pigment from upper layers
Prime Your model one more time

Micron Pens work really well for that, too.

why not just paint around the crease? this is like an extra step that you don't really need to know...

Due to the way I paint my base coat, painting around the creases would drive me up the wall....

What do you paint them like? I have an all tank IG army, and I havn't really noticed the depth thing

On Tau vehicles, the armor plating has really small separations between them(around 1-2mm) By filling in these gaps with the black ink it makes it appear that the Armor plates are sitting on top of an internal structure.
I was just looking at some IG tank pictures and they don't appear to have the same design style, but I don't have a model in front of me. This tip may not work for the IG design style.
Check out Privateer Press's Warjack gallery to really see what this effect looks like.
