The supremely elegant Boker Plus Exskelibur 1 is a reasonably affordable production version of a proven design by the South African master custom knife maker Mike Skellern, and which is made in its custom version by Burger knives. Let's have a closer look at this interesting new knife.

  • Do you use simple stones for sharpening? A diamond sharpener, maybe?

  • @captainpegs07 I use the Spyderco Sharpmaker. It's good enough for my use.

Stones are the best option if you have the experience.

  • Well MrDagon I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my new Exskelibur thanks to this vid. My wife has now started to hide the credit cards when she hears the sound of your voice;)

  • @yobbos1 You will enjoy it, I am sure. It is very elegant. It is great for gentlemeny use, less for heavy utility. As compensation for your wife, I plan to branch out in making a few recipe videos (once my mac is repaired).

  • Thank you for the very kind review. The Exkelibur name denotes the Skellern and Burger origins, we have been making these knives, by hand, in South Africa for many years in collaboration. We were most flattered to be approached by a manufacturer with such a reputation as Boker and are pleased to hear your favourable comment regarding 'build quality' - best regards, Mike Skellern

  • Great review. Well-organized and articulate. Thanks!

  • I bought the 85 gram Bog Oak version of this knife based in large part on Mr. D's detailed review. "Elegant" and "jewel " are accurate descriptors. There is a marketing problem with this knife. I have yet to see photographs or videos which do justice to it's sleek brooding beauty. Also, the hand feel of this large yet light knife is hard to illustrate or put into words. The deep brown Bog Oak scaled version has DUAL blued full titanium frames and that's what sold me.

  • @MrDagon007 I am following the same approach as you are i.e. slipjoints only, and not taking it with me when going out. I understand that getting searched in Belgium isn't an everyday thing, but chances are you will be someday. I just hate the fact that you need a reason for carry. It isn't even that bad in England. Anyhow, thanks for your replies. And keep making your videos, they're very good.

  • @wigglos I usually carry something compact and non-tactical, like an alox swiss army knife, or a slipjoint, or the small exskelibur when in an urban environment. If you look decent, don't act like a fool, use it discreetly when you need it, and don't bring it to clubs etc, then you'll never be searched.

  • @MrDagon007 How do you cope with the "not without good reason" law in Belgium?

By the way, there is an extensive knife laws page on the edc forums website.

  • Great review =]

After much review and research, (lots of history involved in this beautiful model) I decided on the Burger model. Absolutely great knives!

    Thanks for the review!

  • Looking forward to that.
