@8breyerlover A horse always runs with one front leg leading first. Usually, when a horse tires on the right front leg, it will "switch leads" to the left, which means the left leg will lead first. It usually gives a tiring horse a fresher leg to lead with. Racehorses are usually trained to do this to help give them a edge; notice horses carefully in the turn into the stretch, that's where they usually change leads. Like Ruffian, some horses aren't inclined to do it.
