DEEP WATER is the stunning true story of the first solo, non-stop, round-the-world boat race, and the psychological toll it took on its competitors. Sponsored by the Sunday Times of London, the much-ballyhooed event attracted a field of nine, including amateur sailor Donald Crowhurst, who set out to circumnavigate the globe in late 1968. Battling treacherous seas and his own demons, Crowhurst almost immediately comes apart as he faces the isolation of nine months on the high seas. Part adventure yarn and part metaphysical mystery, DEEP WATER is an unforgettable journey into one mans heart of darkness.

Stanley has blood on his hands for what he did. Don was a fool for agreeing to the term, but Stanley is guilty of at least manslaughter for the position he put Don in. One where Stanley had no way to lose, and Don had no way to win.

@caroleastrid yes stanley best was cruel but in theory by making him sign that contract wasn't he just being a business man? and protecting his investment? i'm sure if he knew that it would cause that much trouble he wouldn't have given he money to Crowhurst in the first place.

Ron Winspear as what I call a real friend, and Donald Crowhurst deserved it. Pity so much pressure was put on him which trapped him in this tragic journey. This documentary is awsome and it tells the story of Life... yes life. the sponsors were really hard... already .. almost crual. Stanley Best was the WORST.
