sure Mel Taylor is a good drummer.. but the romanian Ovidiu Lipan Tandarica can give him a run for his money.. and they are about the same age :>

Mel Taylor as always been my 'idol' ! When I was real young, I would bring all my friends from school to watch Mel in Action! Of course they were blow'n away! I know that they became Ventures fan after that. One of my friends (40+ years old now) always pisses his wife off because all he listens to is the Ventures. He has a bigger Ventures collection than myself. I did'nt think that would happen!

I found this video as I was searching for content my daughter could use on her school report. The report is on someone in her family who has died...she chose her grandpa whom she never had a chance to get to know (she was born in Nov 1995)! He was my hero...you have no idea how much it warms my heart to know he touched so many other lives as well.  Thank you for sharing...Jayme Taylor (Mel's youngest daughter)

I have said it before and I say it again, traditional grip is the shit. You can see that he has a well developed technique on his left hand. Not many drummers, who uses traditional grip, use their left hand fingers like this. 5/5 stars like the old days ;)

No reverb? There's plenty. Plenty of compression and EQ too. Did you mean no samples? Then nope, definitely not! That is a real man playing the drums. Damn well, too.

But I really love his style in the mid-60s. That's his best period. He did so much more with so much less. Excellent stuff.

Mel is great at what he does. He is good for music. I hatewhen people compare.

Rarely do two people have the same style. Love the Bass part. Nothing spectacular, but very cool. Typical Ventures. Little off the, but neat.
