Today, I just took my glucose tolerance test. But my doctor only ordered the 2 hour test, even though I told him that I have strong symptoms of reactive hypoglycemia. Now, I'm worried that this test won't be accurate enough. I always hear how doctors think that people with reactive hypoglycemia symptoms are "imagining it". I'm afraid that my test results will be negative. Then that would mean that I am imagining it. I've experience hypoglycemia symptoms for over two years.

Sounds Reactive Hypoglycemia to me too! Avoid refined carbohydrates like white bread and added sugar. Try to eat something with a balance of fat/protein/complex carbs every 2-3 hours during the day, like nuts and whole fruit.

Best wishes to you and your wife. I hope things get better for her. My girlfriend seems to have reactive hypoglycemia also. She has to eat small meals every 3 hours and she feels fine,, but when he has a large meal high in carbohydrates she gets very tired/weak and feels kinda ill. Sugar is a big no no and she strives to cut it out of her diet as much as possible because it creates a vicious cycle of up and down spikes in her blood sugar levels.
Ps. Get your wife the right blood monitor!

hi! So what happened? How is your wife doing? Was the cause for her reactive hypo found?

can you tell us more? What do you eat for breakfast and for lunch and dinner?

(Minor Attack): Some lightheadedness, Sweating, Weakness or feeling tired
(Moderate Attack): Strong Lightheadedness, Feeling like your going to pass out, Slight nausea with some blurry vision
(Major Attack) Severe Lightheadedness, Fainting within 60 seconds to 5 minutes after the attack starts.

Within about 45 minutes of eating the candy bar she will have a headache and might feel wiped out but it will bring the attack under control.
My Attack Symptoms:
-
- Carry a candy bar and a Dr. Pepper in your car in the event an attack happens. If she starts to feel bad make her start walking asap! DO NOT SIT STILL! Will progress the attack and make it worse. Have her begin sipping the Dr. Pepper and taking small bites of that candy bar. Will take about 30-45 minutes to kick in. Then do not eat anything else for about two hours after the candy bar.
-
- Remember what she ate before an attack and do not eat it anymore. For
Example I would eat these microwave biscuits in the morning for breakfast.
Got sick every time. Getting away from certain foods helped more than anything.
I am going through the same thing with my husband. He is get his 5 hour glucose test in two days. We are in the same boat as you all and do not know where to turn. I was hoping this test would help in diagnosing the problem. I saw both of your post and know your frustration. Hope you find out what it is.

@youandmekid1 when you take the test tell them that you are looking for hypoglycemia---lo blood sugar--if you can bring a glucose monitor with you and take samples every 1/2 hr so you can catch the lowest reading---when my wife took the test, it was set up to find diabetes--they, the test did not have a low level range just high---they were only concerned with readings over 200---bring some peanut butter and crackers for him to eat immediately after the test---please call me 309-343-8501

@youandmekid1 i ran out of characters--if they want your husband to drink a hi sugar drink, i suggest that he not, if he does he should only drink a very small amount--if it is a candy bar decline and eat the peanut butter----please go to wikipedia and search for "reactive hypoglycemia" read it and print it--bring it to the test and try to have the nurse/doctor read it---tell them that this is what you are testing for---finally please either call me 309-343-8501 or email alfhild@grics.net
thanks
