Klonoa: Door To Phantomile comparison video between the original 1997 Sony PlayStation version and the 2008/2009 remake for the Nintendo Wii. You'll see a comparison between menu's, the intro and gameplay of the first level.

Although the PlayStation version already was a beautiful and fun game, the makers really did a great job on the remake for the Wii, which isn't just some cheap port but has all new and improved graphics and effects that are just stunning.

Differences between original and remake:
- The intro on the PlayStation is pre-rendered video while the intro on the Wii consist of real-time graphics.
- PlayStation gameplay is made up of 3D backgrounds with 2D characters and items (sprites) while Wii gameplay is completely in 3D.
- Both versions make use of exactly the same music.
- The levels/stages (called Visions) have different names in both versions.
- In the Wii version you can choose between English and "Phantomile" voices while the PlayStation version only has the Phantomile voices which are cuter then the English voices. For this comparison I went with the Phantomile voices on the Wii.

Videos are played and recorded from real hardware, what you see are the actual consoles running the game (so no emulator stuff).

  • People keep saying: "DA OPENING CINEMATIC IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BETTER ON THE PSX VERSION!!!!1!!"

Well, that's because the PSX cinematic is pre-rendered, while the Wii one is rendered in real time (that is, it's not video playback).

Also, as far as I can tell, the characters on the PSX version are sprites with pre-rendered 3D graphics, while the on the Wii, they are polygon rendered.

So, the only major diference is that the PSX one looks brighter and the text on the intro is more poethic.

  • the playstation cinematic looks like it had actual effort put into it...

  • Klonoa>Sonic

  • on playstation the clonoa is cute but the wii is more good

  • @Svesve777 its not all that bad.

  • but hey, klonoa is klonoa. im glad its been remastered for the wii, everything looks so realistic and brought back to life. ^_^

  • i really like how the ring at the beginning looks for the playstation. the cinemagraphics look better too.i played the demo when it first came for the playstation, but so far i have the wii one. currently working for playstation one. its just so high on ebay or amazon since its rare.

  • Thank god this game is available on PSN, now if we can get the second game on there too

  • @TalesOfGod I don't use emulators (at least not anymore), as they don't have the original feel of the game, and I don't feel comfortable modding my PS-One/PS2 fat, as that can potentially break my console.

  • @SonicTehAwesomeFace I've got only four words for you!

    Emulator or burn disk! ^.^
