Increasingly, English seem to be encroaching on the German language. The German Language Association has registered some 6000 pseudo-anglicisms and is determined to stop the invasion. Its campaign is supported by a number of companies such as Dr.Oetker and Porsche, which are now dispensing with Anglicisms in their advertising. Members of the German Parliament are also fleshing out strategies to protect the German language. Ultimately, they want to see this enshrined in the Constitution.

  • I went on a History trip to Berlin a few months back, and of a trip of 40 only two of us spoke any German. all the others said "we don't need to speak German, they all speak English". That was until we got lost and had to talk to the tram driver who knew no English. Then my A level in German didn't look so pointless afterall.

  • I'm learning German, but I sometimes wonder why, considering that 90% of german's also speak English.

  • not to mention, you'll lose business too and businesses will piss off.

  • If you resist it your tourist figures will go down.

  • @llateturn english people got som german´s encroachment as well - such as Blitzkrieg, Endlösung and so on ...:-D

  • Don't worry. Soon enough that English may become Turkish.

  • I am English and I think the Germans should protect their language from 'pollution' of English - why? simply because German is the best language bar none! (My apologies for not being proficient enough to write this in the best language in the world - Deutsch!)

  • @Imarco93 I hate this globalisation thing: You can see here many people write half American English, badly, by the way, and thei native language. It is sooo annoying, and I commend Germans for trying to keep their culture intact. The day cultures are erased by globalisation, this world will become a flat, boring place in which everybody will say: Gimme a break! L0L

  • @noomexican The English language is 40% old French
