Former ABC news anchorman Ted Koppel has just completed a four-part documentary on China for the Discovery Channel. I spoke to him this week about his observations on the country and what kind of debate we ought to be having back home.

Everytime a western reporter talks about China, he or she always brings up the subject of human rights. Westerners DO NOT care about human rights in China. They only use this issue to discredit China. They only pick on China by using human rights. It is cool in the west to champion in human rights and to use China as a whipping boy.

But then I soon found out what he was really about when he took it upon himself to be Mr. Know-IT-All and began addressing sensitive and complex matters of race and culture with the spin always being that Caucasians are out screwing over all the other races 24/7.
