when Reagan held the gun,
senile B-Movie cowboy
filled with hate.

My father spent his days
inside the ballast tanks,
of a nuclear sub
dry-docked in Maine.

Colleen and I would wait
outside the shipyard gates,
for when the whistle blew
to set our fathers free.

Blue sky upon blue sea
father come home to me,
for some would die
working for better days.

Good enough for government work
My father would say as hed end each day.
Good enough for government work

My father would say when the day was done.

But with this work, was hatred spun?

If only to fill the need
of politician greed,
for a legacy and a big house on the ocean.

Now 20 years since turned
and then the towers burned,
and we wondered why the dog bit the hand that fed him?

Because our hate turned sour
grapes from the finest hour,
so blind politician
stare into your ocean.

Good enough for government work
we hear them tell us on the news each day.

they pipe the message while children play.

so where are lessons when towers burn?
Good enough for government work
so where is freedom when masses yearn?




So when the day is done,
what will we leave our sons?
will we leave them peace
or leave them fear and hate?

this time no one will come.

with blind prophets
shoveling lies in the sand.
