I never got around to making a video so I took a quick one on an empty bridge - sooner or later i'll take a better video that doesn't have wind noise and doesn't suck as bad.

Yes, I was short shifting. And yes, most of the power comes in the higher rpms, but I wasn't racing; didn't need all those horses. Video is more so for sound.

  • @s2157cc they only crack if you mechanically overrev. but besides that, you should always do a quick check every oil change. i don't have a s2k yet but i plan on getting one soon! i test drove one the other day and i loved it.

  • @gooey41 they last just fine. personally know of 2 100k+ mile AP1s on original retainers.

Sure, it's a good preventative measure, but it's completely unnecessary. Enjoy your car! I miss mine!

  • @gooey41 they last just fine. plenty of high mileage s2000s still running just fine, including 2 I personally know of. AP1 retainers don't fail if you do your valve adjustment when it's required.

  • @s2157cc no. it's because this is an ap1. ap1 retainers don't last with 9k rpms. that's why ap1 owners change to ap2 retainers.

  • i have a crx sir vtec stock ecu =8500 revlimiter, if i shift @ 8200 i have my perfect shift

  • You are correct, but in order to achieve peak hp in the next gear, to go faster, he would need to shift at 9000rpm, to continue the next gear as close as possible to the 8300rpm peak power.

As you can see from the video he is shifting at 8000rpm. That means he's only making about 150hp in the next gear, instead of about 180hp had he shifted at 9000rpm.

I think the owner of this s2000 is just apprehensive of revving an engine to 9000rpm. Possibly because it was his first high revving car...

  • The highest power comes out at 8300 rpm...

  • yeah that's basically what I'm saying is that if he's not making power after "X" amount of RPM's then why shift afterwards, but otherwise it's not dangerous to shift up until that rev limit. Any tweaks or shifting afterward could cause serious harm to your engine if it's not built and or tuned for it. And since this isn't a diesel engine, there's no reason to keep it around 3-4 or 5 grand if one wishes not to.
