Code and other info is here: http://www.hackniac.com/projects/ti_83_plus_uart/data/

I just turned 16 and I'm in highschool, and we use these TI graphing calculators for math class, and I use mine for delicious BASIC programming during school, so I decided that for my 16th birthday I would add a touch screen to my TI-84 Plus. It's been a long time in the making (My birthday was March 13), but that is mostly because I started learning z80 assembly at the same time as I started the project.

To get UART working on the calculator I had to do some complicated low-level assembly hacks to manipulate the linkport. If you want the code, other information, or want to give me feedback, send me an email at the address on this page: http://www.hackniac.com/pages/contact

  • OK, but why ?

  • @oldevil While a calculator touch screen is fun, I know it isn't very useful. It is just an example usage of my UART code, which allows the calculator to interface with literally thousands of standard devices. Someone out in the field can debug a machine simply by plugging the calculator in and writing a short BASIC program, which is highly useful.

  • That's pretty cool. What would you use a touchscreen on a graphing calculator for? I'm curious.

  • @LacyLola I am writing a photoshopesque program for the calculator that uses the touch screen because a good friend of mine loves to make pixel art and wants a tool like this.

  • @LacyLola My friend does pixel art, and my other friend wanted one for fun, so I made it real :)

  • well done sir

  • Where did you start learning z80 asm? I cant find any good documentation :/

  • Silly boy you can't massage your calculator and have it reveal answers, that's not how it works.

  • @jimcorrill Thank you.

  • Nice job man! I wish I could do this... Anyway, I'm trying to learn how to program in ASM for the TI-84+... I'm just curious how you learned to program in ASM, because I find it rather difficult to get started with it. Although I've found some info about ASM on the TI83+, I'd like to know if it's actually the same and if you could help me out if I have problems... There's really no-one else who might be able to help me you know...:)

  • epic.

  • i know this doesnt actually has a purpose but this guy has my respect for just trying that.

  • Good job. Would you care to share the program you wrote for UART comms?

  • wear can i learn this

  • hey i got a nds toouchscreen today how did you connect ist please post some photos!
