  • hose Canadians coming ashore with bikes were in the second and third assault waves. The purpose of the bikes was to get them to the front quickly -- to consolidate gains made by the first wave and continue to push further inland. The first Canadian wave suffered heavy casualties. Some companies were lucky if 1 in 2 made it off the beach.

No Marines were present at any Normandy beach FYI.

  • the british and canadians deserve so much more credit than they get

  • Go read about

    Léo Major

this guy from Montréal free a town in holland

And capture around 150 german soldier doing it, and all by himself

He refuse to receive a DCM medals

because according to him General Montgomery (who was giving the award) was "incompetent" and in no position to be giving out medals.

That may explain why this hero of war was obnubilate by the Anglo-Canadian,and British military historian offending this way the Great myth of Montgomery

    What a shame

  • Lets just put it this way. Canada was a better assault force on D-Day and got farthest in and deserves more apperciation then we get today. But America does deserve apperciation because they also took a beach. But not as much as they get today.

  • Its great to see old Film of D-Day, i wish there was much more filmed that day, (the first waves). This Newsreel shows how much info was "left out" of the Media in WW-2, and true info of the Battles. Much is still secret to this day? Canadian Juno Beach, like other beaches was a blood bath, but we still took her. The bombing did not kill as many Germans as sadly we now know! Nothing changes though, today Government's & Media still leave a lot of true info Out, like Iraq?

  • America although did things took to much credit for ww2

  • @hkkids57 Juno Beach was the most heavily defended beach, it took us 2 waves to take it and push further inland then any other country, it took 4 waves for the US to take the less hevily defended Utah and Omaha beaches, now Im not trying to direspect any US veterans here, because I think Canada and The US are the best countries on the planet, but you need to educate yourself before you say stupid stuff, check yourself before you wreck yourself.

  • @hkkids57 um no they didn't Canadians were the FIRST ones to hit juno, why? because we PLANNED

  • @hkkids57 You are fucking ignorant. The Americans weren't even on the same beach as the Canadians. And BTW, the Canadian group of soldiers was the ONLY group to achieve ALL of their goals on D-Day.

  • @warmadscot They would have got much more credit, but Americans decided that WWII was a great chance to take credit for something, so they joined 2 years after the war started, and after everything was over, they flooded their markets with movies and video games depicting Americans as the "heroes" of WWII. Typical, don't you think?

  • @fusionhitman I am afraid Cf80toO1 is right the entire Canadian army were known as storm troops. In the latter stages of the war they were put at the front of pretty near every major offensive made by the Brits. These were divisions not small independent groups. If you want the whole story get the book "Shock Troops" by Tim cook, published by viking Canada.

  • @cf80to01 HAHAHA are you sure you studied WW1 ? Late 1917 to 1918, there was s "special warfare unit" they eventually became know as the forgotten brigade. have you read about this group of grunts? obviously not or else you wouldnt be arguing this point xD well we can agree to disagree all we want, it wont matter any. You may have studied WW1 but to hear the stories from someone who's been there first hand is something different my friend. But this does not matter. Salut kamerade!

  • @fusionhitman Again you miss the point. Canada did not make units to do this job, the ENTIRE ARMY did the job. As for your family, kudos' to you. My family has done the same with the exception of the Boer war. My father served in the guns in WW2, I served in Sigs for 21 years and my son is currently serving. I have studied WW1 and WW2 Canadian military history in some depth. I too am a student of tactics and strategy.
