Ok so as we are nearing the end of rehearsals for "SWEENEY" I figured I would give you all a sneak peek into the testing of the chair. I play Sweeney but in this video my assistant Melissa is the one who disposes of the victim, in this case one Miss Mallory, Filmed from the first row of the balcony.

Enjoy!

  • That chair is rubbush. At our school we hanhd made on and it went over backwards like the really thing!!!!!Where did u get this chair from?

  • Just because the chair in the movie went over backwards doesn't mean that that is THE way it is done. Our director liked it feet first, which is actually safer, so that is how we did it. I hand built the chair, by the way. And I have seen videos of your schools chair, not as smooth as the movie chair and actually was really Impractical.

  • nice chair!

  • Thanks!!

  • auctly feet first is the "really thing" because, if you have any sweeney todd knowlage at ALL you would know that in the original production of sweeney todd thats exactly what the chair was like so your chair is rubbish,

  • well, not that it's anything WRONG in the chair going feet first. it is, as he says safer, and it's easier, but as you said, it's really meant to go head first. but if we're gonna talk about the "real deal' a fun fact is that in the book, Sweeney flibs the chair backwards FIRST, and Then goes down and slits their throat. none of the adaptions had that, because the director thought the other way around is better. and the motive in the book is greed, not revenge. so thats the real frame to go by.

  • wow thats a really well built chair!

  • very good copying broadway

  • Awesome chair! Was it hard on the budget, or is it reasonably cheap when done by hand?

  • is there a link so i can see theyre so called 'good' chair at all?

  • exactly!!

  • i love this play and i understand perfectly why it dosent go head first its truely safty aspect i know because we made a chair like that for our school play and even though i am a girl they made me play the beetle :{ only cause after an hour of talking i sounded like a british man

  • Again, Nowhere does it say that it flips Head first. The original chair (by way of the book) was actually two chairs affixed on either side of the floor, and the whole section of floor flipped over, one chair went down the other came up to take its place. And the point of that design was the break their neck, and if that didn't happen then he finished the job with the Razor.

  • oh well i knew that but we were talking about the musicles, that was from the verry old movie with todd slaughter
