Totally agree! He was a natural, not plastic and fake looking like bodybuilders today. And he had that mystery- not that "I don't have a thought in my head" aura you get from other muscular actors.

at the time of movie steroids had been available to the public for over 20 years and promoted as health tonic for underdeveloped/malnourished, were rife in sports,no health warnings,bans,presidents, dictators, the entertainment industry, military, police, fireman, labourers, etc and it wasn't an offence to us them.

Steve was made for this role. He wasn't bulky like today's bodybuilder. He was just the right size with a little bit of mystery.
