Skrappy, the slow-moving five-year-old 1.2 metre-long Savannah monitor lizard, doesn't usually wander off.
But that's exactly what happened when his owner, Pam Piszczek, brought Skrappy outside for some fresh air at her Marmora home about a month ago.
"I was so ecstatic to get him back!" she said, after picking him up at the Indian River Reptile Zoo east of Peterborough on Wednesday morning. "It was like winning the lottery."
A passing motorist found the lizard Tuesday night on Hwy. 7 just outside the town of Madoc in Hastings County.
Two men caught the lizard while it tried to cross the highway. The men brought the lizard to the reptile zoo
she seems like a really good owner

Great looking lizard, pretty big for a Sav.When people talk about irresponsible reptile owners I like to remind them of irresponsible farmers that have let pigs loose to destroy more habitat then any reptiles. But take care of your reptiles so us herpers dont get a bad name.

@bahminj I don't understand why you think a friendly lizard like this is a strange pet to own.. anyone who has a childhood fascination with dinosaurs should be able to relate to owning one.
I don't get how some people hate animals... it mind boggles me.

@Oadea86 Hahaha, stupid reporters... they can't even grasp the basic concept of metre's/meters... 3 metres is almost 10 feet.. this sav is big for a sav though with a wide head (almost 4 feet).

world record monitor....... anyone else notice that these people are about 20 ft tall as well?

0:49 apparently the lizard is 3 meaters long. A savannah monitor isn't 3 meaters long

People are so strange..Why not adopt a child to, hold so lovingly! Given the chance it'll bite to..immobilize her so it can feed off her flesh1

Thanks to Indian River Reptile Zoo. It's nice to hear the owner had taken the proper legal steps to own the lizard, and it definitely looked like a well cared for animal.
Good to hear it made it home, safe and sound, and the owner considers it a learning experience to properly secure it at all times.

LOL...I love how the description says that the lizard is 1.2 meters long (seems about right) and then the reporter at 0:50 promptly calls it a "3 meter long lizard". That would be about 9 ft.! Can they ever get all their facts straight!!
Glad to see it made it back to its owner.
