Lee did stupid things because he really thought God was magically interceeding for him. Lee actually thought that he was God's intrument - and that God wanted slavery to be cruel and painful. He was as wacked out as any Taliban or Nazi

I agree with you there, but I tink General Lee was trying not to have a 30 year war, but sometimes you have no other option.
Probably the same reason why he chose to attack the yankees on cemetary ridge heard on at Gettysburg instead of flanking behind them and going after D.C. which would have likely perpetuated the war longer.
