We're told these women are strong and independent...badass, even. What we're shown says something different to ladydeadlock and I. This vid is our take on the unnecessary victimization, sexualization, and marginalization of so-called self-sufficient female characters in the shows we love. Please watch the vid before reading the meta at my LJ, if you'd like to discuss.

  • THIS.

Especially for unfairly hated on Gwen and Jo, who possibly has the WORST treatment of a good character ever. Love Rose's inclusion too, of course ^_-.

  • Thanks for watching :) Yeah, Jo really got the shit end of the stick, didn't she...? Poor thing :( Wish I'd waited another year and I could've included her martryr scene at the end instead of two Rose clips. Go figure.

  • Quite honestly, I'm glad to see that it's made someone uncomfortable, because until I really put it all together, it didn't REALLY hit me. Even mapping it out on paper didn't affect me until I saw it finished and went "just...damn!" Thanks for the view and comment :) I appreciate it!

  • I wrote my college essay on the representation of women in television and in particular Buffy the Vampire Slayer how she appears strong but still holds the male gaze. This video is spot on!

  • Your vid is not a comfortable one to watch, and I mean that as a compliment. It's hard to be reminded how little has changed the way TV portrays women.

Great character study and great editing.
