New timing and balance shaft belts on my 1988 944 Turbo. I used a Contitech timing belt and a dayco balance shaft belt. The old balance shaft belt was broken inside of the compartment .

  • No I didnt replace them. They looked and felt fine so they have a lot of life left in them. The tensioner gets locked in position with a bolt, so it can be tensioned manually and then locked in place.

As for the water pump, its working fine. I constantly check gauges, so I will see if it fails. Its easy enough to replace, but expensive, so I'll do it when the time comes.

Did you not replace the idler pulleys and tensioners as well? They look old in the video. (not?) You'd be nuts not to do that-and the water pump too!
