And of course, Orestes will grow up to kill Clytemnestra for killing Agamemnon. What masters of tragedy the Greeks were!

Parts of this film are as good as anything in cinema

@karlamr16700 Yeah, I watched her in "Ilektra" and she was great there too... She's great :D

@rogerwatersII I never liked him anyway... A danish author wrote a book about Electra (Agamemnon's second daughter) and I really didn't like Odysseus... -.- I pity Agamemnon... (And Iphigenia was such a selfish girl! xD )

@Dworfklux Seer Calchas prophesies that in order to gain a favourable wind Agamemnon needs to sacrifice his daughter, Iphigeneia, to appease Artemis, whom Agamemnon has offended, having killed Artemis' holy golden-horned deer. Ulysses tells Agamemnon to trick Iphigeneia, telling her that Achilles, great young king, wants to marry her before going to Troy. Clytaemnestra (Iphigeneia's mother and Helen's sister) and Iphigeneia arrive in Aulis, where the truth is revealed.

@Dworfklux Paris and Helen fall in love and leave secretly Sparta to go to Troy. Her husband, Menelaus, asks the other Greek kings to keep their old oath and help him to get Helen back. His brother, Agamemnon, the most powerful Greek king, becomes the general of the war campaign against Troy. All kings get gathered in Aulis port to set off for Troy. However, there is no favourable wind for the ships to deploy.

it's all about a lazy moron who asked dimwitted questions in the comment section instead of looking it up for himself

I saw this film in 1977. It was the first foreign film I'd ever seen with subtitles. The story and acting were so strong that I never gave one thought to the fact that I had to read the words. It is one of the most haunting, enduring films I've seen in my life. The images are seared into my memory. Wonderful stuff.
