Richard Carpenter: From Joe's Studio, circa 1967. This is the one tape, 4-track or otherwise, that survives as, for somne reason, Joe gave it to me.....Karen, at 17, is a marvel.

Mystery Solved: "in 1999, we transferred the 4-track to 48-track and re-did everything, including a reproduction of my original electric piano solo. I finally got around to putting real strings on the track instead of those on the Chamberlain Music Master that was on the demo."

So not really from 1967 other than maybe the voice. It sounds like they digitally enhanced the drum track too.

This does not sound like it's from 1967 nor does it sound like it's from a 4 track of that era. Listen to the bass response. This may not even be Karen. Something fishy here.

WHERE IS THE HARMONY!!!...a very beautiful vocal...she had one of the most beautiful voices of all time...but Richard could have brought an amazing dimension to this ....he was brilliant with harmony...thanks for sharing this one...i loved the Carpenters and i have most of their recordings...i even have Richards solo album from1987...' Time'...it's not the same without Karen ...of course....but it is awesome...His recording of the title track...'Time'...is breathtaking...check it out.
