  • @WerewolfOfTheWater This is the most convoluted logic. If banning abortion created incentive to rape, then allowing abortion would create a DISincentive to rape; nonetheless, rapes still occur. Rapists do not rape to get reproductive rights; reproduction is likely the LAST thing on a rapist's mind. So no, Republicans do not want this crazy scenario of providing more "reproductive rights" to rapists. How absurd. They simply want the right to life of the unborn to be recognized.

  • an unwanted fetus has no ill intent of course - like a parasite, it's just doing what it naturally has to do - but the physical risks of pregnancy and its total disruption to a woman's body and life means the fetus is not harmless, and therefore not innocent

  • @MayonR well mutations and parasites are naturally occurring. they are just doing what they were meant to do. do you consider cancer innocent?

  • @FongioHELS [[its total disruption to a woman's body]] it's a naturally occurring process, disruption just suggests inconvenience.[[fetus is not harmless]] Woman have had babies for eons which is beneficial to survival.[[not innocent]] A bay has not yet sinned therefore innocent.

  • futhermore, even if a fetus has a right to life, a pregnant woman is not required to save it by loaning out her body for nine months against her will. since pregnancy entails profound physical, psychological, and long-lasting consequences for a woman - it is not a mere "inconvenience" - her freedoms are significantly restricted if she is forced to carry to term.

  • @thewayofthemaster Although you could call a fetus a "potential person," a potential person cannot have personhood rights either, in the same way that a 6-year old cannot obtain a driver's license just because he's a potential 16-year old. Potential persons have only potential rights, not actual rights.

  • @thewayofthemaster fetuses are not defenseless; they have their mother. a woman does not simply terminate a pregnancy because it's inconvenient or unplanned, it is a serious consideration with herself and her doctor. nobody else can decide for her.
