@themadmick518 Maybe not so much in america but in the old country sicily and italy it is still going on and is still considered very powerful and honorable. These cartels Don't last very long either unless they are in their own countries like Mexico, Colombia and Bolivia.

The Italians are done. It's sad to say it but after the organization was exposed to the media and shit it started to crumble. In order to be on top now adays you have to be a ruthless son of a bitch. Mexican drug cartels kill entire families, no morals, no rules. The Italian Mafia started out as an Honorable Society, it ended as something totally different. Lets face it everything has its beginning , middle, and end. Just like the Irish and Jews at one time.

Watched this film it`s brilliant! Good cast, good actor`s and has a lot to say about Joseph Bonanno from his life in Sicily to becoming the Godfather of the Bonanno Family. Aslo shows Lucky luciano and Bonanno talking about the commision.

and recently the sicilians (zips) have been comming over to america to revitalize the families and restore the connections....the mafia is growing back into a powerhouse....they have corrupt politicians, shady cops, and connections with the russians and the colombians and other major world crime syndicates....they still have that "old money" as well as the new money
the mafia is something that will never die as long as there is a demand they will be the supply

@themadmick518 Almost true.
But the mafia is still rich as a rockafeller, and powerful as a president...they still do run shit in new york state, new jersey, and penn state...as well as multiple metropolitian cities around the us like Chicago, Tampa, Cleveland, Cincinatti, Providence Ri. Colombus Ohio, ect.... and major Port cities like Miami, New Orleans, Pensicola, and out west... Reno, Vegas, Carson city Nv.....they still have the worldwide connections, and political connections, etc......

The Gambino crime family where considered the most violent family of the Mafia the way I see it.

Just watched this movie last night, and I couldn't get my ears or eyes from it!, Hearing them mention all those crime families and boss-names, gave me a mafia-boner haha!, No seriously, this movie was great, i absolutely loved it..great drama, great acting, great cast. It might not be as action-filled as i hoped for but the story was excellent..with all the things happening in it..executions of bosses, JFK, the Cuban Revolution etc etc.. ;) I highly recommend this movie

@themadmick518 it started with greed, corruption and murder and it will end with greed, corruption and murder. hollywood romanticizes the mafia, the reality is and has always been something much more dishonorable. there is nothing honorable about killing each other until there's no one left to kill, a bullet to the back of the head, bringing violence to your doorstep where your wife and kids sleep, etc. etc. etc. mexicans, italians, irish, jew, pink, purple, aquamarine..its just men killing men

@asac54321 you mean the autobiographies? they are 'bound by honor' and 'man of honor.' one written by salvatore bonanno and the other by his father joseph bonanno.

What is the name of the novel ????
-
I would not say they are 'done'. When there is money to be made and business to exploit there will always be Mafias running things on the underground. But I agree with you about the Mexicans, they do not care for any of these so called 'codes of the street'. The same applies to the Russians but not as much. It is only because the Italians and Irish in America are so far dow the line now they would be considered Americans where as these Mexicans and Russians are only just arriving
