The reason for this out of tune problem you ran into is the dynamics of the wood and metal vs the temperature and moisture. I know, geeky and scientific, but I study blacksmithing on many aspects and wood working, so I am familiar with what the weather does to wood and metal, such as the body and strings of the dulcimer.
