OK, finally threw a few 100 yen coins into HL2 Survivor.

The controls/stick take a heck of time to get used to, but seems to do OK after you get the hang of it.

Single player is surprisingly good as well, and while there's no explanation of the story, the gameplay is tweaked around so it fits the 10~30 min playtime of an arcade machine. In essence, it's a condensed HL2 given a more old school arcade feel to it.

Well, it definitely looks like a far cry from the original. However, I have seen a Japanese language version of the original HL2, but it must not have gotten much attention.

My Japanese might not be all that great, but it looks more multiplayer-oriented (with the red and blue clad CPs), rather than the original, which focused more on physics puzzles. Although, if the Gravity Gun is usable, that would definitely give it some more value and retain that Half-Life 2 feel to it.

Not too sure about the Grav Gun, but it does have deployable shields. It's much more like Enemy Territory in regards to an XP/class system. But from what I've heard, you can play single player as well.

The Japanese localization of HL2 is exactly the same as the English, except for translated subtitles.

The genre itself is not popular at all, and PC games are non-existant here (apart from eroge) or are very, very expensive.

This actually was what Valve originally intended the game to look like.....you know before the German hacker released the beta and valve had to completely remake it and turned the game into a Monster of a success

Also, is there a way to download this? I kinda wanna put the files in Half-Life 2 or Garry's Mod, then screw around in the levels.

it would be cool if they released this on steam but that will never happen
