  • I used to watch Gabor thru the open french door at The Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach, man he was the greatest most lyrical player ever, what tone what phrasing we last saw each other on the 405 freeway driving to gigs, RIP amigo

  • @cliffworks4321,..Although people depart, the memories remain in the heart.

    Thanks for sharing!

  • @SuperXavier30 well thanks for enjoying my anecdote, Gabor was driving next to us feeling no pain, grinning as we all honked and waved. Growng up in LA in the 60s-70s, hanging at The Lighthouse, Donte's, Shelley's and other joints was amazing. Everyone came thru town and played to our delight, all were approachable and as a student of Barney Kessel and Tommy Gumina (Polytone) I approached them all! Herbie, Wes, Benson, looking back it seems like those were better days.

  • @cliffworks4321 ,.Sounds like you have lead a very interesting life, and met a few fascinating characters along the way.

Hopefully our tomorrows will be filled with a few of those better days!..Cheers!

  • Ahhh...the great Gabor Szabor always at his best, just Breezin'!!!

  • @mumbleora,..Still sounds great!..Cheers!

  • I have been into Gabor since the 60's and seen him live at the Troube.... Its great that he is not forgotten. Some musicians have the magic he danced with it and was creative enough to have his own style! Nice to see great players like Carlos Santana cite him as a influence on their own unique styles! As a surfer and musican some of my finest memeories are blended with the magic of the Gypsie Gabor! RIP mate... Gone but never forgotten!

  • Yo, SuperX --- this sounds just as good as it did back in '71 when I first heard it on the jazz station in L.A. Thanks for posting it, man ...

  • @cliffworks4321 what a great memory to have...thanks for sharing :-)

  • George Benson made this practicallyh his own.:) I heard this, appropirate, last, month, a few times on the Princess Cruise ship Golden Princess in the famous Princess theatre. I had forgotten , till today, what this was called, let alone the artist..!!

  • Thanks for posting. I have the vinyl and used to play it all the time years back. Of course I love George Benson, but I prefer this version. Maybe it's 'cause Bobby Womack is on it too and Jim Keltner on the skins.

  • It's amazing how some artist can take anothers artist song and improve upon it.
