When I listen to this music and look at these pictures and imagine Matthew laying there in pain, dying alone because someone thought he wasnt worthy of lifeall of these comments become inconsequential. We are sill being killed for who we are. Whether within ourselves or in our churches or in the streets, we all have work to do.

Matthew Shepard was killed because some idiot was able to convince a worser idiot that killing gays is something God would approve of. We obviously never got to read the same Bible.

As Christians, we should have dumped the Old Testament ages ago!!!

have you acted in the play the laramie project? this was a hate crime. i played four characters in the laramie project which is a play based around his death and wyoming. one of those characters was the girlfriend of one of his murderers. . this is why they killed him. the play and the movie were created around REAL interviews that people from the tectonic theatre companie took, nazi what the fuck gives you the right to say that!? they were trying to raise awarness.

The question of whether it was a hate crime didn't probably come up in the trial, because there was no hate crime law on the books (nor should there be). The killers got the death penalty, or I believe actually, life in prision, as they deserved. The system worked. All crimes need to be punished equally for ALL people. This TV special cam out way after the trial and dealt with the motivation of the killers...facts that didn't come out in the trial. Shame on you for bringing up the word nazi

This was NOT reported as fact but a "theory" that was actually not only dismissed in the trial but confirmed as nonsense by the murderers themselves. Such lies. Matthew wasn't killed because of religion. It was a drug deal gone bad, and this was later exposed as a false hate crime by ABC News, not exactly a bastion of right wing information.
