Stanford Professor Geoffrey Cohen explains how a carefully timed social-psychological intervention with middle school students helped African American youngsters improve their grades not just initially but for at least two years afterward. Cohen is a professor of organizational studies in the the Stanford schools of Education, Humanities and Sciences, and, by courtesy, in the Graduate School of Business.
