This song I wrote a week after Stars in the Sky. I drew a similar name out of the hat. I had already done an over the top, sugar coated love song, so I thought with this one I should go in a different direction.
Under Starry Skies
Words and music by
Jack Dingler
She remembers country roads and barefoot walks and horny toads
and the way her father used to smile so free
she tells me her mama's cooking
and will I stay, she's sure there'll be enough for me.
I sit with her and spend my time as she talks about the summertime
And the Smith boys that live just up the road
She says she has a secret
Don't tell a soul, but she's sweet on Billy Joad
And she smi-iles, under starry skies
In a world that only she can see
And though she's biding time in a nursing home
She only sees life the way it used to be
In a moment of semi-clarity she says, "My family has forgotten me"
"And they've left me in this awful place to die."
I remind her I'm her grandson
She says she knows, in a tone that twists me up inside.
Then it's time for me to go, as she's sleeping there I close the door
And I make my way to the world that's just outside
Her love lies heavy on my heart
I know that soon I'll see her nevermore.
Absolutely one of the best songs I've heard. Period. In response to something you put in your channel description...yes, you are a songwriter! For sure you are that... and also an excellent musician! A basket of stars for this beautiful song! Suze

Gil, you're welcome to cover any song I write.
I'd be honored if you did. And feel free to put yourself into the tune and perform it as you see fit.
