(info) The Chevrolet Suburban Carryall was first introduced in 1935 as an eight-passenger, all-steel wagon, built on a truck chassis. Chevrolet started improving the Suburban almost immediately, adding shock absorbers and oversized tires in 1937 and offering rear panel doors in the 1940s as an alternative to the tailgate. In 1955 the Suburban received all-new sheet metal and the small-block V8 was introduced. The real predecessor to today's Suburban was introduced in 1973-a new design with four doors and available 9-passenger seating. The most recent version arrived on the scene in 1992, adopting the styling, chassis and powertrains of the Chevrolet C/K pickup line. For 1992 Suburbans included four-wheel anti-lock brakes (ABS) and Insta-Trac 4WD. In subsequent years, a redesigned interior, dual airbags, an electronically controlled automatic transmission and Autotrac 4WD were added to carry the Suburban through the 1999 model year. Completely redesigned for the 2000 model year, the next-generation Suburban incorporated the look and features of the latest-generation Silverado pickup trucks.
