the exhaust system is very restrictive on most cars, by freeing up flow on a turbo car esp you gain lots of low-end. and you may lose weight by pulling out the rear seats but your changing the handling characteristics, the weight distribution is changed dramatically when you take out the spare, jack, rear seats etc..... my solution tune, exhaust, stickier tires.

A friend of mine has the 2.3 T5 in his C70 Coupe. He had a false software on his ecu so his engine ran way to lean. Because of that the temperatures got extremely high. The compressor wheel in the turbo melted, broke and made its way through the exhaust. The turbo was toast but the engine is running, running and running. He gave the turbocharger to the producer (KKK) to analyse it. They asked him if the engine is broken because the temperatures where above 1000° Celsius. :-)

how about more boost, same rims, and better tires? An exhaust system isn't going to give you much more power and will cost you a lot. Whereas you could just up the boost for a lot of extra power. But what would make the most difference around the track is pulling all the back seats out.

intake dont do anything on these cars. downpipe and a ipd tune and a little weight reduction it would of won

I have an 02 S60 and the engine is very strong, it can take near unlimited abuse. The transmission has always been defective though and gives me problems in low gears and even stalls sometimes.

With two cars so close in performance, it comes down to the driver. G35s are overrated and as commonplace as Corollas. Rs are a rare sight to behold.
