The daughter of prominent U.S. Representatives Hale and Lindy Boggs, Cokie Roberts' future as a nationally recognized congressional reporter was shaped by her upbringing in and around the U.S. Capitol. In this clip, Ms. Roberts provides a detailed account of Louisiana Representative Hale Boggs' decision to speak on behalf of the 1965 Voting Rights Act. The interview was conducted on June 23, 2009 by the Office of History and Preservation as part of the U.S. House of Representatives Oral History Program.
