This is the one where the family returned the little chimp to her original keepers, isn't it? She didn't get to stay with the family she'd probably come to think of as her own. I know chimpanzees aren't meant to be pets & when she grew older, through no fault of her own, she'd be "dangerous" but it's sad to think of that baby being dumped back into a regular research facility. Kind of horrific, really.

This is very old material. Chimp to Human tests have been done into the 1970's (Hess "Nim Chimpsky). Maybe even now.
Like with any wild animal, the chimp will excel both physically and mentally in the shorterm. At ages 5-6 years the Human mentally exceeds, while the ape remains somewhat childlike, but with huge phys. strength.
The Human continues to learn and grow, while the dumb-ape spends its remaining life in a filthy cage, or worse.
Poor, miserable, chimp. The Human likely had fun.

These people were pretty stupid to shoot a gun next to a kid

It looks like a starter pistol, so there are no bullets going around. But still; not very good for the kids' hearing.
