  • Yes, the noise was piston slap. There was very obvious wear when I took it apart, but it ran perfectly and didn't use oil or smoke!

No idea what mileage it had done.

  • Good grief...is it even idling fast enough to build up oil pressure? :(

  • @dshmechanic , yes, the oil pressure was good, just one of the bores / pistons that was damaged.

  • @whitestu So all the racket was piston slap then? Reason I ask is because my Zetec makes a similar sound, but MUCH MUCH quieter than this. It doesn't really worry me...you almost have to really be listening to hear it, and it can only be heard at idle/low RPM's...at least that I can notice. Got the car with 48K miles on it and it now has 110K...it has made this noise as long as I've owned it. NEVER uses a drop of oil, and oil is super clean when drained for changes, which is fine by me! LOL

  • Thanks

    I replaced it with a 2.0 Zetec.

  • wow sweet car mate, like what you have done with the engine. have you fixed it yet? message me back :)

  • Ouch. That's piston slap that. Little ends have gone. Had it happen to an XR4x4 I had which made it sound like a diesel tranny van :)
