The Subtle Art of Self-Delusion

Okays, so I finally had enough of the empty criticism.

"Intolerant hateful bigot" etc IS NOT an argument.

Nor is it a convincing response to an argument.

And if you accepted these arguments over 2 years ago as being fine, why are the arguments seen in a different light now?

Indeed given that one of the central themes of this channel has been highlighting the crazy and funny side of religion, ALL religions, why is it only with Islam that people raise an eyebrow or try to defend it with these vacuous arguments.

I mean....
I've laid into creationists..... not a peep,
I've laid into scientologist.... not a peep,
I've laid into christianity.... not a peep,
I've laid into catholicism.... not a peep,
and I give Islam the self same treatment and a load of people melt down.

I mean really, what's going on here? Whats driving this phenomena?

actually the only people i know who criticize Scientology are people who have trouble believing that whole alien story. also how does it fair that this alien religion was created by a science fiction writer, whose religion charges you to get higher in heaven. who in their right mind would ever argue against that unless their evil.

To answer your question Thunderf00t...Fear, which is kind of ridiculous when you think about it. i live in the Midwest, and I'd hazard a guess that the average American citizen around here is better armed than most Islamic "soldiers", and even if not, they CAN be with one trip to the gun store. We have gangs of teenagers in this country that are far more dangerous and can field more firepower than Islam, and while these gangs are threatening, we don't grant them the same fearful credence.

To bet quite fair Thunderf00t, my beef is not with you generalizing and offending Muslims. My problem is that there will be idiots who listen to this sort of thing and if they don't have much experience with Muslims themselves, will assume that the same applies to ALL or MOST Muslims, when it really doesn't, and this will lead to many problems.

Listen mates..It's unpopular speech that HAS to be protected! Just remember, it is just talk and not action we're talking about. I remember when the KKK had a big rally in New York years ago complete with a loudspeaker -spewing their ignorance! But they DID nothing but flap their gums..and you know what? Most New Yorkers just laughed and generally ignored them!

I'm happy to say that at least some muslims are forward thinking; my mom's friend fled here from Saudi Arabia and she's much like a liberal christian in that she accepts science, rejects all of the hate and intolerance preached in the koran and looks only at the good bits (giving to the poor, etc.) while condemning stuff like threats to the South Park creators.

@didjargo That, and we have people like Bill O'Reily that really are bigots and think that everything they disagree with is from the devil and needs to be sent back to hell. There really are websites that mindlessly say that all muslims should be rounded up and either killed or deported. I think people are afraid to throw their lot in with people like that.
