Punt guns were used for market hunting, the birds were not shot for sport, for instance the birds feathers would be used in ladies hats etc.

@otthebot So that's where the skill is...I'm not impressed. Besides, you don't need to blow a bunch of birds to pieces to get that kind of challange.

I can see that people might have tried to make a living by such means in the past. That is a different story, but how does that apply to today? I can see it being little more than a hobby and you just don't need to shoot a dozen ducks for dinner.

@peri2502 "There is no skill involved" - You try manoeuvering a 17 to 23 ft boat within 60 yards of a group of duck (anything further is out of range), in the cold the wind and tide WITHOUT BEING SEEN:- then you'll understand where the skill is. These were predominantly used by people trying to make a living in the absence of much else and they were damn close to starvation doing it. Read some books.

yep ducks are real dangerous. need a really big gun. espeacialy when they poop on the porch.of corse now days there really dangerouse to jets, and if it wernt for leagle duck hunters there wouldnt be near as many of them .ducks not jets.

I don't know...this seems a truly lazy and cowardly way of hunting. I can't see any self respecting hunter using something like that. There is no skill involved. You simply fire an artillery piece into a group of unsuspecting prey. Might as well just use grenades.
