SelectPlusJail Time for Not Mowing?Jail Time for Not Mowing? The Associated PressCity officials in Canton, Ohio, have passed a law that could land home owners in jail if they don't cut their grass. (June 5)It is the bane of summer time activities.Cutting grass may in fact be the last thing many want to do, but those who put it off too long in Canton, Ohio, could be looking at a stiff fine or even jail time.SOT GREG HAWK/City Councilman"We need to be out of the lawn cutting business. This city is not in the business of mowing yards."However that's exactly what the city has been doing.City officials say for years Canton has been spending hundreds of thousands of dollars cleaning up vacant and uncared for lots.SOT MARK ADAMS/Canton Environmental Health Director "We need to find a different way to get this not only done faster but that we're not doing it. That somebody that's responsible for it is contacted and being held responsible for it." "Most of the vacant lots that we are mowing lots on are actually owned by someone, not necessarily an institution but by an individual. We intend to go after those individuals and collect our money." Specifically after a second violation the city can fine people $250 and sentence them to a month in jail.So far no one has been put behind bars for this and officials say they hope the threat alone will get people to get behind their mowers. ___ ___, The Associated Press.

  • Jesus Christ that is totally ridiculous. If someone wants to have a garden that encourages the growth of natural plant species and subsequent habitat creation they should be allowed to, if not actively encouraged. This video is demonstrative of mans' misunderstanding of their place in the natural world.

  • yeh it is total bullshyt im living in a neighborhood like this now strict over cutting grass... all the way down to keeping up with flowers ... headache them GAWT DANG HOA ~Home Owners Association~ they act like the fawkin police ... i had to report one bitch we all hate..... for cursing at some kids for having to many toys on the sidewalk playing wtff?.....my grass stays cut ....but dont come knockin on my damn door reminding me it needs to be cut everytime it grows out lolohell naww

  • lol yeah i can see if your lawn is like 10 feet high but 1 inch over thats a little crazy

  • I would rather see grass in it's natural state, but if it were my yard, It would be transformed into a garden of herbs or veggies and fruits etc. When did nature become bad? Crazy that we let this happen. Freedom, where did you go?

  • thats dumb but okayy

  • A few reasons why you need to keep your property neat. it effects property values of the neighborhood. Health because things like rats, mice, snakes like the tall grass and trash to hide in. another reason fire hazard.

The biggest is neighbor with two 5 gals of gas at 3am in the morning.

  • also not cutting the grass often correlates with having lots of weeds. I don't want my neighbors weed seeds blowing on my lawn.

  • that is so RETARDED!!

its so stupid when i had to pay $100 just cuz

my grass was 1 inch over height. man i could of

bought some new shoes with that. DAMN!!

  • i totally agree with bionicdance on this one. how can you guys accept losing freedoms of any kind? are you freaking retarded?

  • wow this is sum bullshyt right here.
