Toad really doesn't like the snow. No matter where I take him out in the yard he always hauls ass right back to the steps and paws at the door. ...hell, even when it's not snowing. He's so spoiled. Rather be inside where it's warm or cool and he's got toys and food I guess. He'd never make it in the wild. lol

  • Ok That was Funny when He/She was digging!

  • I bathe Toad once a year, if that. The less baths the better.

The better FOOD the better they smell. Water bottles also add to the smell. They can only drink so much out of a bottle, they need bowls of water. High quality food not the Marshals Ferret food that pet stores push on you. That stuff is fish oil based. Toad has a ferret smell, it's not bad or strong. It's normal. I also clean their litter pans a lot and wash all their bedding weekly.

  • Ferrets have a tendency to "follow their owners footsteps home", so if you haven't tried it already, perhaps you should try taking him a bit away from the house (or to a new place) and then letting him down. If he rushes back to you and wants you to hold him you'll know for sure he doesn't like being outside. Some people I know take walks carrying the ferret at first, and then letting them down for the walk back home. Lots of people train their ferrets with treats to like being outdoors, too :)

  • lol, okay. Thank you. I guess, lol. I KNOW Toad doesn't like being in the snow. That was pretty much our first and only snow encounter right there since we lived in a warm place before moving to Indiana. He does however love to go to the park and root around in the grass. I know what I'm doing. ;) I've had ferrets for a long time. Both my boys love the outside as long as it's comfortable and there is mud or dirt to dig in.

  • Ferret's body temps are higher than hours so get cold a lot easier. Shouldn't he have a sweater or something on if brought outside in the snow?

  • No. Ferrets fair wonderfully in the colder weathers. Most people in the UK keep their ferrets outside year round. He was outside for five minutes tops. A sweater would of done nothing for him. He's fine.
