Tamils crossed over to Jaffna during the Portuguese period from1505-1658 and most of them were converted to Catholicism. Go to Jaffna museum and see the ancient Sinhalese Buddhist artifacts and read Sri Lankan history books.

It is not only the extremist factor that is destroying Sri Lanka but corrupt politicians in the first place. With over 110 corrupt ministers wasting billions of rupees from public funds to maintain them, Mahajaraa Mahinda Rajapakse is destroying this beautiful island appointing more thugs, henchmen, prostitutes into politics. Political correctness, decency and manners are a thing of the past.

Before the troubles began the majority of tamils lived in the south comfortably and were well integrated with main stream society. The tamils of the north did not have this luxury and felt left out. Of course the 83 riots played into the hands of the LTTE as the innocent tamils in the south were suddenly made to feel different. Lets hope the extremist idiots from both communities will now come to their senses.
