A 'journalistic' piece on Qantas' outsourcing maintenance practices which implies that outsourced work done by SIA Engineering Company and Lufthansa Technik is substandard.

In an article in 'The Australian' newspaper, SIAEC has said that a "thorough review of its maintenance records showed it had carried out no such repairs in the aircraft locations identified by Qantas."

William Tan, CEO of SIAEC told The Australian, "These allegations are not new. We've gone through them before, except for the staples, and every single allegation has been proven false not by us but by (the Civil Aviation Safety Authority)."

Mr. Tan also added: "The staples were found 10 months after the aircraft left the facility"

Steve Purvinas, federal secretary of the Australian Licensed Aircraft Engineers Association told The Australian, "The Singapore engineers are trained to pretty much the exact same level as the Australian guys and they are just as good as we are"

  • so this video is to say that SIAEC maintaince quality is no good?

staples to repair wire? i think staples to repair wire is unacceptable, which is very hard to believe it came out of SIAEC.

  • qantas... how could you!! as the chaser say, qantas will eventually be renamed the "asian kangaroo" if it keeps outsourcing!!! verry scary!!!

  • I worked at these facility's in the US,In 3 different states.

All this is true,But if you or your relatives die,The empty suits will just blame it on a terrorists bomb.

  • Singapore Airlines as one of the best maintenance crew in the world and they can deliver superior standards cheaper. If Australia wants to keep jobs, it needs to get more productive so that it can compete. Simple as that

  • my god this is unbelievable, how bloody stupid of them. Someone really needs to shut them down

  • OMG i cant believe this !

i am taking qantas next week from Hong Kong to Brisbane god bless me

  • i cant believe that SIAEC has this kinda low standard, have fly with SQ so many times and there no problem and i see no defect.

  • The media are acting like SIA is a third world company and that Asian Engineering is terrible well the media is wrong! Why would Qantas send their planes to Singapore and the Phillipines if they thought it wouldn't be a quality job. Qantas is ment to be a qaulity airline by which they say the most experienced in the world so I don't think they would get maintenence done on their planes if it wasn't quality work even if it is cheaper!

  • I think those particular people and airline just want to keep their clean record... well let me tell you this world you live in, that word does not exist.....

  • BUt i think Philippine engineering is good, thats why they sent their planes there not because its cheap because its high quality...If Qantas and jetstar airlines are GOOD QUALITY airlines they would know were they would send their aircraft for maintenance and engineering... made my point.....

  • It is always shameful to see unions use a topic as important as safety and disinform and fear the population for the sake of their own battles against employers. They should play more honestly.

  • Criticising SIA maintenance?? Lol.... right! The are probably the best in the world! Anyone who has lived in SIN would know that.
