I just got a starter colony of the orange form of P. scaber today, I'm so excited to introduce them to my spider and lizard vivariums. First I'm trying to grow a sizeable colony of this very pretty form.

It's the remains of prey the tarantula leaves behind after feeding. They can only digest liquid food so they break down their prey as best they can (true spiders pretty much leave prey as they started except sucked dry) and whatever they couldn't feed off of; like the exoskeleton, is clumped up. That's a bolus.

I have sowbugs in my tarantula cages to keep them clear of food bolus. They do a great job but sometimes a tarantula gets a little too hungry and eats the maid. X-D

hi, im delighted to hear from u again!
my pet maroon wolf spider (Arctosa ebicha) sometimes ate the sowbugs, while my dock spider (Dolomedes sulfureus) has never attacked the cleanly roommates.
i put some mealworms, too as cleanup crews.
