In the Final episode of the series Al-Khalili turns detective, hunting for clues that show how the scientific revolution that took place in the 16th and 17th centuries in Europe had its roots in the earlier world of medieval Islam. He travels across Iran, Syria and Egypt to discover the huge astronomical advances made by Islamic scholars through their obsession with accurate measurement and coherent and rigorous mathematics.

He then visits Italy to see how those Islamic ideas permeated into the West and ultimately helped shape the works of the great European astronomer Copernicus, and investigates why science in the Islamic world appeared to go into decline after the 16th and 17th centuries, only for it to re-emerge in the present day.

  • This is not a lesson on Islam rather it is an informative documentary about scientific progression and advancements which stemmed from the Islamic world by Muslims (and heretical Muslim) scientists. The scholars were influenced by their zeal on acquiring knowledge and they progressed which made the Islamic world flourish and prosper... indeed this also led to materialism which then brought about their demise.

  • The message of the video is to always doubt, not worship. :)

  • nanking, very true brother, the amount of books burned and thrown in Euphrates river, the murder of scientist, is a great loss, but the mind is still in existences and the road of knowledge is always paved and well lit, it is in our hand to prosper and not let obstacles get in our way.

  • i am proud to be an berber muslim

  • making the right history of science

    thank u all

  • That is true!

  • The Global Muslim ummah (community) should now learn to prioritise and not lose touch of their main purpose which is to worship Allah and follow the guidance of our beloved prophet. Science is 9adn will always be) important as it was in the past for Muslims.

  • wow, a lesson on islam from those who know little about the religion of islam, and more on the nations of the middle east
