I'm not in AP Calculus AB yet, but I'm a sophomore in high school, and will be taking this course next year, so I've seen nothing like this before, except the basic math, and somehow, I understood it at the end of your explanation.
In other words, great explanation!

at 1:42 i solved the equation by y(y-1)=15 by taking 15 to the other side and taking y common. i get 15 and 16 as my values.
i have only slept for 3 hrs in the past 48 hrs and this looks right tome, but obviously its not.
