This rescue of Bama Hard Hitting Bryant, coon dog, took place on February 16, 2010 at Lake Tuscaloosa spillway. The Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue was called to the scene the night before by Animal Control, requesting assistance in retrieving two hunting dogs that were stranded behind a fence over the spillway. The weather was inclement, temperatures in the 20's, windy, and icy. One of the dogs, Bama, had fallen off the cliffs and landed on a ledge less than two feet wide. The other dog was rescued with no problem. It was too dangerous to put firefighters on the cliffs considering the conditions. The only alternative was to wait until the next morning, hoping the dog did not freeze to death, or fall into the spillway. The next morning, one of the firefighters that worked the call the night before, went to scene to see if the dog was still there . Thankfully, the dog had not fallen. He called the Fire Department and trucks were dispatched to the scene, with the equipment necessary to perform the rescue. Though the weather was very cold and windy, with ice still on the cliffs, Tuscaloosa Firefighters were able to perform the operation without a flaw. It may seem like allot to do for a dog, but had it been a person, the rescue would have taken place the night before, regardless of conditions. As it turns out, it was a training exercise with a very happy ending!!! Go Bama!!

wow, poor ole hound dog, my walker hound (rescued from shelter) was asleep on her $100 matrress and covered with her blanket when all this was happening. Hounds should never go out without their sweaters and some treats.
