In East Berlin, urban development has been mostly a grassroots-led process since the Fall of the Wall. People took actively part to the organisation of the city.
In the early 90s' the former GDR infrastructures were abandoned and many unused spaces and factories had to be renovated and adapted again. Somehow, East Berlin was at the time unattractive for private as for public investments.
The locals took the matters in their own hands and started to reorganize the eastern neighbourhoods according to their needs and interests.
That s what made East Berlin so well-known today, with its many grassroots and self-organized infrastructures.
Somehow East Berlin has now become an interesting place for private real estate investors, and many grassroots projects are now threatened to be displaced, or to disappear.
The documentary film tells the story of the RAW Tempel, a local association of citizens denying to give up their right to the city.
