Author Laura Castoro talks about her latest novel LOVE ON THE LINE, about a mother and daughter who struggle with themselves, their families, and their fears, in this moving and unforgettable novel of hope.
I'm looking forward to meeting Laura at the Florida Writers Conference. My sons call themselves "Afri-Eur-Asian." The oldest and youngest are brown like their parents; the middle son was a "throw-back," blue eyed and blond. He and his 17 month older brother were stared at as they were almost twin-sized. Their lives have been more "colored" by physical appearance far more than is fair, painfully so.
My novels ( Gwendoline Y. Fortune) deal with multi-ethnic-cultural life. We write what we know.
My father is Italian while my mother is American of African descent. It was brought up more in italy when I was younger and more in America when I was in my teens. It's not easy being mixed, share the love fair ladies.
Interesting insights. In _Crossing The Line_, there was a flashback to the protagonist's teen years, and I wondered if it might have had some basis in the author's experience ... this makes me think so.
Laura is a WONDERFUL speaker and teacher ... anyone who can make it to a conference she attends will be blessed, informed, and invigorated!
Laura Castoro will be at the Florida Writers Conference from October 23-25, 2009. She brings her background to life with her workshops on Diversity and Characterization. Ask her how you can register to hear her in person.
