TAMAYA Planix 7 - Digital Planimeter.
A simple demonstration of using a digital planimeter.
Once a very important and versatile tool for a lot of uses. From simple area calculation from air photos, maps etc. to construction of a lot of things.
Of course it's not used as much today as lets just say 10 years ago when this sample was made. Today computers are overtaking because of convenience and because it's paperless and has the potential to be even more precise.
The exact model (by model name and appearance) is still available as new for a price of $660-1000.
I found this one at a flea market for around $6.
"Of course" without the proprietary rechargeable battery pack and user manual. But I still believe I've made this year's so far greatest deal :)
Manual is available on the internet and I have the skills to make a replacement battery pack which I might very well do in the near future - It's an easy R/C racing style sort of pack in mini size and the industrial size cells needed are no big deal.
None the less I like the tool. A great gadget for a true gadget man :)
That is a cool device! I want one.

@Airclot That easy! Watch out on eB/\y ;)
Be prepared however paying a premium for the digital ones or be patient. Though I have seen some at an acceptable price level (which probably needs small fixups like this one). The pure mechanical ones are possible to get at an acceptable price. Especially the ordinary ones. High quality mechanicals however can be priced quite high too.
Btw. Have fixed the battery. Made my own pack from 4 x 1/3AA industrial cells - at a fractional cost of an original.
