Major flooding in Kyogle, on the Far North Coast of NSW, Australia. The Richmond River peaked at 18.1 mtrs, with the loss of some cattle and other livestock. There was also extensive property loss here in Kyogle, and other parts of the Far North Coast. This footage was filmed from Geneva, on the west side of Kyogle. It does not include footage of the flooded township (where two service stations went under, and many houses were damaged) as I was cut off from this area at the time of uploading the video. My sympathies to all those who were (and continue to be) badly affected by the flood.

  • FINE EXPOSITION! ... of man and nature jointly sharing a 'what can you do?' moment in life...like the bird at end! (can you ID it for me?)

    ...SUBSCRIBED!

  • Thanks Candnrg- the bird at the end is an Australian Magpie.

  • It is a worthwhile point that Jubbie74 raises - I certainly wouldn't want this video to promote a lack of safety and caution when it comes to dealing with flood waters. On the contrary, one of the things that arose strongly from all our experiences on the 5th of January was the enormous power and ferocity of a flood. It was a humbling experience, and one that certainly did not engender any risk taking. Stay safe all- I hope our communities pull together to provide the support now needed.

  • great footage.

one thing though, I am shocked/scared to see a parent allowing their tiny toddler to stand in the water on the edge of such a raging torrent!!!!

  • Thanks for your comment Jubbie74. I agree there is certainly no room for complacency when it comes to dealing with flood waters. However, video can be quite deceptive when it comes to portraying the risk that was posed by a particular situation. I can assure you the baby in the video was in absolutely no danger in the location he was being held.

  • Thanks for your comments all- we were very lucky to remain safe and (relatively) dry throughout the day- although the river came up to only a few metres from the front of our place. My thoughts are with all those who were not so fortunate, both here in Kyogle and the other flooding areas throughout Northern NSW and QLD. Stay safe all, and hope the clean up isn't too painful.
