This is a deep zoom on a third order mandelbrot employing a similar method to my "Ultimate Metaphase XX" video. Using the 3rd order Mandelbrot formula, everything has threefold symmetry rather than twofold. Therefore X shapes are not possible, but Ys are fair game. Also, due to the threefold symmetry, it is not possible to line anything up into strait rows as with the Xs. I like to call the formations Triwings. Firstly, zooming in in the crack of the Y causes omega (ω) shapes to form. Zooming inside of these ω formations results in the y chromosome shapes that the arms are full of. The end result is kind of a "Y made up of Ys"

For a full-scale large format render of one of these Y chomosome formations, which the video passes directly through, please see my deviant art entry,

Music is from the World of Goo soundtrack, which can be downloaded here free of charge:

My "Ultimate Metaphase XX" video, which ultimately results in an "X made of Xs", can be found here:

  • wait i think world of goo

  • @harlosik13: music is from world of goo.

  • Wow, another great video of the set! I like your zoom-videos the most on youtube. They have excellent coloring, a good choice of music and a speed which is not too fast but also not too slow.

  • @Chrissib1989 Thanks for your feedback. It is hard to find audio that won't get your video flagged for copyright. I seem to have found a perfect formula for the zoom movies: I three "zooms" per two seconds. Zoom 2x magnification 3 times over a 2 second inverval. That is an 8x zoom for every 2 seconds.

  • Good speed, deep, dimensionally interesting, excellent.

  • Good

  • @mandelbrotguy: I'm currently working on a still rendering of the "X Chromosome" concept using a 4th order mandelbrot. It's highly symmetrical, but doesn't quite have the beauty of the 2nd and 3rd orders. Fifth and six order brots, while making for some gorgeous medium-depth zoom patterns, tend to get way too intricate at higher zoom depths. I haven't tried yet, though, so I could be wrong!

  • is this from worms?
